Privacy Policy

As you might expect of a business owned and run by experienced lawyers, we take your privacy very seriously. Particular Legal Limited, the company behind *particular, is intimately acquainted with issues of client confidentiality.

In making use of this website, you consent to the use of that information by Particular Legal Limited as set out below.

  • Introduction

For the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998 the ‘Data Controller’ for this website is Particular Legal Limited (“Particular”). The privacy and security of our clients and contacts is important to us. This privacy policy explains how we use the information we collect about you, how you can instruct us if you prefer to limit the use of that information, and the procedures that we have in place to safeguard your privacy.

  • The information we collect and how we use it

From time to time we may provide the information that you have provided in connecting with *particular to contractors working for us on client service and communication so that we can monitor and improve the services we provide. We work with some really good people so you don’t have to worry about this, but just in case you do, rest assured that all these contractors sign up to a confidentiality agreement with us concerning the client data that they handle.

We may wish to provide you with information about special features of our business or any other services, products or information from *particular that we think may be of interest to you. Some of the information we provide to you may be about third parties who we also think you might find helpful or interesting. But hey, your inbox is your own and we definitely don’t want to feel uninvited so if you would rather not receive this information, please send an email message to hello@particular.legal with the words “No info please” in the title line.

We will not provide your information to any third party under any circumstances, whether carefully selected or otherwise, unless you expressly say we can (e.g. we say “shall we?” and you say “please, if you wouldn’t mind…”) because to be frank, we wouldn’t want anyone to do that with our personal information either. The one exception to this is where somebody has come in and bought the business, and to be honest that’s only so they can keep supplying *particular services to you.

Please see paragraph 6 below for information on other methods for updating your preferences and details.

Aside from the matters laid out above, your personal data will never be disclosed to any third party save with your consent or as required by a regulatory body or under a court order. Ever. And that’s all we have to say on the matter.

  • Our use of cookies and other information gathering technologies

We employ information gathering technologies for the purposes of collecting information and statistics about the users of this site, but such information will not be used deliberately to identify any individual, although it may in practice do so since we want to see what you’re interested in so that we can direct you to other stuff we think you might find helpful. It’s because we’re helpful people, that’s all. And also doing this helps us work out what’s popular so we can keep the content fresh and improving the efficiency of the site, which benefits you and all of our clients. As we said, helpful, that’s all.

We also employ cookies on this site. Cookies are baked goodies often containing chocolate chips and the like. Those aren’t the sort of cookies we’re talking about here though. These cookies are small text files used on the internet for a variety of purposes and are altogether much less interesting. We use cookies to make your use of the website more efficient, for example by saving you the trouble of re-entering information. Although the cookie may provide an automated identification of your computer, no personal data is stored in the cookie.

You may adjust your computer’s settings so as to block cookies, to accept or reject cookies from specific websites, or to accept them only on confirmation from you. Because of the wide variety of browsers and operating systems used by our customers we cannot provide detailed instructions for this, but your browser should contain details in its help facility. If it doesn’t, frankly we suggest you ditch it and have a go with something better, like Firefox for example, which we love and which you can download for free from here: www.mozilla.com. You should be aware that if you choose to block cookies, the site may not work as efficiently as it should.

  • How we protect your information

The internet is not a secure medium. It’s much better than it used to be in the bad old days but just as the good technology has improved, so have the baddies gotten more devious. We have put in place various security measures but please don’t take any chances. However, any payments made through this website will be handled using secure socket layer technology or other technology which is at least (if not more) secure than that as provided by PayPal and other reputable providers.

Your payment information will not be disclosed to anyone under any circumstances other than as necessary for the sale concerned and will not be retained by us should you withdraw your instructions.

  • Sale of business

If *particular or the business operated through this website is integrated into any other company or organisation your details may be disclosed to our advisers and any prospective operators and their advisers and will be passed on to the new operators of *particular. If we didn’t do this, your retainer might have to come to an end and that’s not in anyone interests, especially yours.

  • Updating your details

If any of the personal information that you have provided to *particular changes, for example if you change your email address, please advise us by sending an email to hello@particular.legal and include the words “updated information” in the title line.

  • Your consent

By submitting the information referred to above and/or by making use of our website, you consent to the use of that information as set out in this policy. If we change our privacy policy we will post the changes on this page, and may place notices on other pages of the website, so that you may be aware of the information we collect and how we use it at all times. We may also email you should we make any changes so that you may consent to our use of your information in that way. Continued use of the website will signify that you agree to any such changes.

Owing to the global nature of the internet’s infrastructure the information you provide may be temporarily transferred to and stored in countries outside the European Economic Area that do not have similar protections in place regarding your data and its use as set out in this policy whilst in transmission.

Occasionally it is necessary for us to change this Privacy Policy, so please remember to check back from time to time.

If you have any questions concerning this Privacy Policy, please contact us at hello@particular.legal with the words “Privacy Help” in the title line and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
